Guildford in Bloom have been holding an annual School Competition for many years, designed for children to learn about gardening in a fun and creative way.  We are genuinely amazed by the ideas and application that children can bring to gardening, from nursery level up to teenagers, and the general enthusiasm for the competition from staff, parents, and pupils.  Our competition is free to enter and open to all schools in the Borough of Guildford.  We change the competition theme each year, but we continue to promote eco-friendly habitats that encourage more wildlife to our school gardens.

Our dedicated Schools Team are passionate about the benefits of using gardening in the curriculum, and they host a Twilight event each year which provides teachers with useful gardening tips, and ways to secure support and funding to maintain their gardens.

We also aim to encourage children and families to get gardening together - whether the children have a dedicated plot in the garden, or a pot on a windowsill.  Either way they will learn about plants and how to grow their own food.  We want children of all ages to learn about garden wildlife and create protective habitats to care for bees and pollinators, bugs, birds and hedgehogs.  We know that being outdoors in the garden is good for children's physical health and mental wellbeing.

We have colouring sheets, quizzes and games as well as craft activities suitable for children, which you are welcome to download for their education and entertainment.
